Support for Windows XP has ended

Microsoft ended support for Windows XP on April 8, 2014. This change has affected your software updates and security options.

Microsoft on Saturday April 26, 2014 told customers that cyber-criminals are exploiting an unpatched and critical vulnerability in Internet Explorer (IE) using "drive-by" attacks.

Microsoft is aware of limited, targeted attacks that attempt to exploit a vulnerability in Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 8, Internet Explorer 9, Internet Explorer 10, and Internet Explorer 11," the company said in a security advisory.

According to Microsoft, the attacks have been launched against IE users tricked into visiting malicious websites. Such attacks, dubbed "drive-bys," are among the most dangerous because a vulnerable browser can be hacked as soon as its user surfs to the URL.

All currently-supported versions of IE are at risk including Internet Explorer 6-11.  Microsoft is working on a patch for all their Windows operating system except Windows XP.  The Windows XP operating system was retired from patch support on April 8.

Due to the ongoing attempts of hackers to find and exploit vulnerabilities within the Windows XP operating system and the fact that Microsoft no longer supports XP, The Computer Fix highly suggests upgrading XP to Windows 7 or Windows 8.

What we can do to help you:

We understand first hand how upgrading your work or personal computer can be a daunting task.  The Computer Fix has been using XP too and now it is time to move forward.  With the latest threats, we're dropping XP like a hot potato.  Even though the XP machine we have isn't used for financial purposes, we do occasional use it to log into some vendor sites.  It would be too easy for those accounts to become susceptible to unauthorized access.

We've helped several people order their new systems since April 18th.  Whether your new computer is purchase through The Computer Fix or you've purchased it online, we can help set it up, copy your old data and pictures over, and make sure it's ready and secure to go online.  We're open every Monday-Friday from 10am-6PM.  Call or stop by.  We have systems arriving daily and can custom order your system with Windows 7 (preferred) or Windows 8.  We can then transfer all of your important information over to your new system.  Either way, it's time to run from XP!  218-283-8292  We're located across from the Sports Stadium on the East end of the Top Ten Video building.
